Inclusive Workplace Symposium

Thursday, November 3 | 8:00 am - 12:45 pm | Hilton Charlotte Center City

The Charlotte Chamber's hosted its first Inclusive Workplace Symposium on November 3 at the Hilton Charlotte Center City. The event provided participants with an opportunity to explore strategies, best practices and real-world examples for developing organizations that are inclusive of talent with diverse perspectives, identities, and experiences.

This interactive event explored how employers can engage a workforce that is increasingly multi-generational and more representative of women and minority ethnic groups. Participants also had the opportunity to enhance their understanding of what factors contribute to, or detract from, the development of an inclusive workplace.

The symposium featured the presentation of a collaborative case study project led by the chamber and the University of Phoenix in partnership with Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG) and EY (The whitepaper entitled “Attracting and Advancing Diverse Talent in the Accounting Industry” can be viewed here), along with a panel discussion on Expanding ethnic minority talent in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers. Break-out sessions included topics on creating workplaces where women can succeed, understanding implicit bias and micro-inequities, and enhancing inclusion and equality for LGBT employees and citizens.

The keynote presentation featured Shaleta Dunn, with the ManpowerGroup, who shared insights on fostering workplaces that are inclusive of employees of diverse generations and life stages.
