Tony Almeida is vice president of large business customers for Duke Energy's U.S. Franchised Electric and Gas organization. As part of the retail customer services group, his team is responsible for managing the relationships and services to the company’s largest manufacturing, commercial and institutional retail customers across the Carolinas and the Midwest. He was named to his current position in December 2008. Previously, Almeida served as vice president of business relations and economic development for Duke Energy Carolinas. Read the interview.

The Creative Industry contributes $41 billion to and employs nearly 300,000 in North Carolina. Chamber YP employees had the unique opportunity to hear from N.C. Department of Cultural Resources Secretary Linda A. Carlisle and N.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco Tuesday morning about the impact of the creative industry to our state and the Queen City. The aforementioned announced the findings of new research that shows the creative industry in North Carolina accounts for nearly 300,000 jobs, approximately 5.5 percent of the state’s workforce, and contributes $41.4 billion to North Carolina’s economy.
The new study is entitled “Creativity Means Business: Economic Contributions of North Carolina’s Creative Industry” and is available at www.ncarts.org/creative_economy.
“People with creative ideas, innovators, and entrepreneurs bring investment and jobs to our communities,” said Gov. Bev Perdue. “This report highlights the creative spark in North Carolina, and will be a big help in economic development.”
Noteworthy highlights include:
- Overall, North Carolina’s creative economy is 5.86 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.
- The Creative Industry accounts for more than $10 billion dollars in employee compensation annually.
- Nearly 5 percent of the state’s total wages and benefits come from the Creative Industry.
