Interview of the Month

This month Engage Charlotte interviewed Harvey Gantt, Charlotte’s first African American Mayor and cofounder of Gantt Huberman Architects, to find out how young professionals can become more involved in shaping Charlotte’s future. Mr. Gantt suggested the process starts by asking yourself: Where and who are causing things to happen in my community? Once you identify where changes are happening, it’s time to get involved. Charlotte continues to maintain a competitive cost of living rate despite the current economy. Charlotte’s cost of living was 92.7 percent for the second quarter of 2009. With the national cost of living average at 100 percent, Charlotte remains almost 8 percent lower. The city ranked ninth out of the top 40 metro areas.
