Charlotte Chamber and Sustain Charlotte Tour Tuesday, May 24, 2016
On May 24, members of the Charlotte Chamber and Sustain Charlotte toured the city’s alternative modes of transportation. We took a ride on the LYNX Blue Line to 7th Street Public Market, where we heard from:
Robert Cook, secretary, Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization, who spoke about the Comprehensive Transportation Plan, which outlines multi-modal transportation planning for more than 20 jurisdictions across the Charlotte region and looks 20-plus years into the future.
Chris Clouden, executive director, 7th Street Public Market, who spoke about the benefits of the rail trail and light rail to businesses, specifically the market.
Megan Green, air quality program manager, Mecklenburg County, who spoke about why viable transit options are so important toward addressing pollution issues.
John Lewis, CEO, CATS, who spoke about the Gold Rush Street Car, LYNX Blue Line and Blue Line Extension, as well as impacts on development and future transit plans.
David Walters, professor, UNC Charlotte, who spoke about the benefits of the rail trail and light rail to businesses, development and urban design in the area.
After the program, attendees enjoyed local beer, wine and a cheese spread from Orrman’s.
