Statement by Chiquita to the Charlotte Community Regarding the Announced ChiquitaFyffes Combination
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – March 12, 2014 – Chiquita will continue its strong presence and corporate commitment to Charlotte. We have more than 310 employees in Charlotte today and have no plans to move any of our Charlotte employees to Europe.
To help put our headquarters employee presence in perspective, the vast majority of our senior executive and corporate employees will continue to be in the U.S. and Charlotte specifically. Compared to the Fyffes corporate office in Dublin today, there is a more than a 25-to-1 ratio of corporate employees in Charlotte over Dublin.
We have been greatly welcomed by Charlotte and intend to continue to play a leadership role in this community which has adopted us so quickly. We look forward to continuing our activities here, such as the Chiquita Classic golf tournament, for the benefit of local charities through the United Way of Central Carolinas.
Our announced transaction provides us a platform for future growth and opportunity that neither company could have achieved by itself and unlocks access to synergies and efficiencies to support innovation, customer and consumer value creation. We believe this will help us to grow jobs over time.
We are excited about the agreement and look forward to sharing more information about the transaction in the days ahead when our leadership team meets with local and state officials. Ultimately, this combination is about creating more growth opportunities for our company and employees, and our Charlotte operations will remain critical to our ability to deliver success.
