Recent Economic Development News

Empores LLC, a U.S. manufacturer and installer of energy-saver products, has opened a sales and service office in Charlotte, attracted by the city’s large and growing energy industry. The Charlotte metro area has 2,966 firms in the energy sector that employ nearly 47,000 workers. Between 2012 and 2014, the sector grew by 10.6 percent adding more than 4,500 new jobs. Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont announced today that it will build a $20 million, 160,000-square-foot Goodwill Opportunity Campus. The 18-acre site located at Wilkinson Boulevard and Boyer Street will also accommodate a potential future 90,000-square-foot expansion. Hitachi America, Ltd. announced today the opening of its ink research and development facility in north Charlotte. The new facility, located at 5900 Northwoods Parkway, will initially employ five people. More on Hitachi America, Ltd. …

Gov. Pat McCrory and North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that Sealed Air Corporation, currently headquartered in Elmwood, New Jersey, will create 1,262 jobs in Charlotte.
