AGL Networks Enters Charlotte Market
AGL Networks, a dark fiber network provider, has entered the Charlotte market with a new 92-mile backbone network scheduled for completion in December. AGL Networks provides last-mile fiber connectivity between telecommunications service providers and business customers. The company is a division of AGL Resources, an Atlanta-based energy services company.
AGL’s fiber optic network in Charlotte will be comprised of multiple redundant rings that cover the University, downtown, airport, southwest, SouthPark and Ballantyne areas. In addition to network protection, surveillance and restoration, the company has a Network Operations Center (NOC) that monitors the system for damage, alarms and scheduled maintenance.
“Charlotte first came to our attention when we screened for metro areas that have high long-term growth forecasts, says Jim Gillis, President. “When we layered on the businesses with high bandwidth needs, and the pro-business city administration we knew this was the right place to expand.”
