NBEO Expands Headquarters Adds National Center of Clinical Testing

The National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO), an organization that develops, administers and scores tests for optometry certification, announced today that it will expand its headquarters and add the National Center of Clinical Testing in Optometry (NCCTO) to their Charlotte office.

Upon completion of an accredited program in optometry, graduates hold the Doctor of Optometry (O.D. - Oculus Doctor) degree. Optometrists must then pass a national examination administered by the NBEO. The three-part exam includes basic science, clinical science and patient care. All exam candidates will take the patient care portion (known as Clinical Skills testing) of the exam in Charlotte.

“This is an all around win for Charlotte. The National Board’s decision to expand their testing facilities here offers exciting possibilities for the city,” said Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber President. “It furthers our goal of growing the healthcare and higher education sectors of our community, while bringing in folks from all over the country on a weekly basis who will be adding to the local economy.”

In order to accommodate the 15,000-square-foot expansion, the organization will relocate from a portion of the 19th floor of the BB&T building in uptown Charlotte to the entire 20th floor. The new headquarters and testing center space is expected to be fully operational by September and will create four full-time and another 50 part-time positions in the testing facility.

The NBEO originally relocated their corporate headquarters from Bethesda, Maryland to Charlotte in 2005.
