Time Warner Cable to place national data center in Charlotte
Company will add 225 jobs, invest $101 million
Time Warner Cable, Inc. (TWC) announced today its plans to build a national data center and new corporate office building in Charlotte and add new corporate positions to the company’s Charlotte campus. The project will create 225 jobs and generate a capital investment of $101 million. The average annual salary for the new jobs is $61,044.
TWC owns 33 acres of land on Crescent Executive Drive. The 178,000-square-foot data center will be one of just two across Time Warner Cable’s national footprint. A new 103,000-square-foot office building will house corporate accounting, human resources and IT functions.
TWC is a leading national cable television company that operates in 28 states with 47,000 employees nationwide. Currently, TWC employs more than 2,500 people in Charlotte area.
“Time Warner Cable is proud to be expanding our Charlotte Corporate Campus and adding new jobs in Charlotte,” says Carol Hevey, executive vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable East. “The state-of-the-art technology in this data center will enhance the customer experience by increasing the reliability of the products we deliver to our customers.”
“Including today’s announcement, Time Warner Cable will have invested more than $200 million in the Charlotte economy, created more than 1,200 jobs and over the past decade on the corporate campus, become part of the fabric of our region,” said Mayor Anthony Foxx. “Today’s announcement is evidence that businesses in Charlotte can continue to grow despite economic conditions. This is an example of the City’s dedication to improving business and employment opportunities.”
“Time Warner’s continued investment in Charlotte is impressive,” said Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber President. “Today’s announcement confirms that our business climate – including a cost of living that is 90 percent of the national average, a skilled and growing workforce, and the ability to connect to the rest of the world via the Charlotte airport – remains competitive and attractive. This is great news for the citizens of Charlotte.”
The Charlotte Chamber assisted Time Warner Cable with the expansion.
