Northeastern University Opens Regional Campus in Charlotte
Northeastern University, a Boston-based research university, announced today the launch of its first regional campus in Charlotte. The new location will include 14,000 square feet of offices and classrooms at the 101 independence Center building. The project will create seven new jobs.
Charlotte was selected for the expansion because of the regional demand for graduate education and opportunities for research partnerships. The Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and Charlotte Center City Partners worked closely with university officials in planning and researching the Charlotte market over the past two years.
Eight graduate degrees will be offered with a doctoral program in education expected to be added next year. The masters programs will be MBA and Master of Science degrees in Taxation, Finance, Leadership, Sports Leadership, Health Informatics, Project Management and Education. Graduate degree programs in Charlotte will be based on a “hybrid delivery” model, which involves the integration of online and classroom learning taught by existing Northeastern faculty. The approach is ideal for working professionals.
“Northeastern’s new Charlotte regional campus is one that is well positioned to meet the needs of our local community. This is evidenced not only by our location in the heart of Center City, but will be seen through strong academic offerings and research opportunities that are closely aligned with the growing needs of our region.” said Dr. Cheryl Richards, Northeastern’s Charlotte Executive Officer & Regional Dean.
“Northeastern University brings another strong brand to Charlotte,” said Bob Morgan, Charlotte Chamber President. “We appreciate the educational needs they will provide to our citizens and workforce. We also appreciate that Northeastern and other institutions of higher learning are providing a significant and growing number of jobs in our economy.”
This project was assisted by many business and public sector leaders in the community. The Charlotte Chamber would like to thank them for their support.
