MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. to Co-Locate Headquarters
and Bring 400 Jobs to Mecklenburg

In a press conference today at Davidson Town Hall, N.C. Deputy Secretary Dale Carroll announced on behalf of Governor Beverly Perdue that MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. (NYSE MSM) (“MSC”) will set up a co-headquarters in Davidson and create 400 jobs in North Carolina by the end of 2017. The company’s existing headquarters is located in Melville, N.Y. MSC is one of the nation’s leading distributors of metalworking and industrial supplies. In business since 1941, MSC has set the industry standard for quality, selection and customer service as one of the leading direct marketers and distributors of more than 600,000 metalworking and industrial products.

“This co-location strategy will support and prepare for MSC’s strong future growth trajectory,” said David Sandler, chief executive officer of MSC. “After conducting a national search, the Charlotte area provided the most compelling opportunity to strategically and cost-effectively grow our business. We are grateful for the efforts and leadership of Governor Perdue and other North Carolina officials for working with us to make this co-location possible. We look forward to building our presence in the Davidson community and to beginning this exciting new chapter for MSC.”

MSC plans to invest more than $31 million in a new 180,000 square foot building, located in Davidson at Harbor Place. The new facility in Davidson will house many corporate functions including, but not limited to, executive management, IT, accounting, human resources, product management and marketing. While compensation will vary by job function, the minimum average compensation sits above the Mecklenburg County average wage at more than $79,000 annually, plus benefits.

“We are delighted to welcome MSC Industrial Direct to Davidson. Economic development is a very high priority for us,” said Davidson mayor, John Woods.  “We encourage the development of jobs, with the focus of making Davidson a great place to live and work.”

MSC operates through a network of five customer fulfillment centers (four are located within the U.S., and one is located in the U.K.) and 108 branch offices (107 are located within the U.S. and one is located in the U.K.). MSC’s customer fulfillment centers are located near Harrisburg, Pa.; Atlanta, Ga.; Elkhart, Ind.; Reno, Nev.; and Wednesbury, U.K.

“MSC’s selection of Davidson for its co-headquarters fits perfectly with our mission to further diversify our economy, ensuring the Charlotte region maintains a competitive advantage across the country,” said Charlotte Chamber president, Bob Morgan. “We look forward to having MSC as a new corporate citizen.”
