Charlotte Chamber executive committee member, Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown is no stranger to struggle. In fact, it was the hardship she faced as a child growing up in inner-city Detroit that helped to mold her into the health care executive she is today.

Now, vice president of community partnerships for Novant Health Incorporated, Garmon-Brown's personal as well as professional life is focused on increasing awareness about the community's needs. She is an ardent supporter of initiatives that champion the less fortunate, and considered one of Charlotte's most passionate voices for the cause.

To acknowledge her tireless work for the poor, Garmon-Brown will be honored at the inaugural Barefoot Gala presented by the Women Ambassadors of Samaritan's Feet.  The black-tie optional event will be held on November 10, 2012 at the Charlotte Marriott City Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Organizers say it will be an evening full of good food, auctions, and your chance to make a huge difference in the life of a child. Your support provides shoes and hope to future world-changers in our local community and in Burundi, Africa.
