It is no secret that Germany tops the list of countries who have a presence in the Charlotte region.  The current number stands at 191 German companies with offices here and thanks to the chamber's European recruiter, Sven Gerzer, the list keeps growing.  It is no coincidence that Sven came to the chamber a year ago from Munich.

"German people like to bring their businesses to Charlotte for a number of reasons," Gerzer says. "The quality of life, the transportation infrastructure, the workforce development programs and so much more."

This week, Gerzer and his boss, Jeff Edge, will lead a small group of Charlotte business leaders and two N.C. Commerce Department representatives on a five day economic development mission trip to his hometown. The group will meet with a number of German companies in the energy, automotive, health care, life sciences and consumer products sectors.

"While we can't share the names of the companies we're dealing with at this point, I can tell you some are potential clients and others we hope to establish a relationship with before we head back to Charlotte," Gerzer said.

"This trip is a bit unusual in that we are taking along members of Charlotte's business community to help make the pitch to these companies,"  adds Edge.  "Sven brings not only a knowledge of what Charlotte has to offer but what Germany's needs are and he understands how best to communicate it."

So it's Auf Wiedersehen, Sven and Jeff!  We look forward to following your tweets next week @cltecondev and @cltchamber.
