Charlotte Business and Civic Leaders Travel to Atlanta
June 20 – Some 140 Charlotte community leaders will spend June 20-22 in Atlanta taking part in the chamber’s annual three-day intercity visit. The trip provides an opportunity for public, private and nonprofit leaders to examine best practices of another city while also discussing challenges and opportunities each community faces. This year’s event is based at the Loews Hotel.
The trip kicks off Wednesday with a luncheon panel discussion featuring Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms; Metro Atlanta Chamber CEO and President Hala Moddelmog; and Mike Alexander, Atlanta Regional Commission Director of the Center for Livable Communities.
The group then boards buses bound for Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a tour and two panel conversations:
Sports: The 21st Century Pantheon
Panelists: Greg Beadles, EVP & Chief Operating Officer, AMBSE; Catie Griggs, SVP of Business Operations, Atlanta United; and Penny McPhee, President, Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.
Economic Development: Competing Against the World
Alan Ferguson, SVP of Community Development, Invest Atlanta; Nick Masino, Chief Economic Development Officer, Partnership Gwinnett; and Gregg Simon, Vice President, Economic Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber.
Thursday, Charlotte leaders will learn about Atlanta’s Community Improvement Districts, Midtown, The Center for Civil & Human Rights, Ponce City Market and the Atlanta Beltline among other topics.
The trip wraps up Friday with a conversation focused on mobility and connectivity. Charlotte Assistant City Manager Tracy Dodson will moderate the discussion with Doug Hooker, Executive Director, Atlanta Regional Commission; Tim Keane, Commissioner, City of Atlanta; and David Springstead, Assistant General Manager, MARTA.
