The charlotte chamber hosted its advocacy trip to Washington, D.C. on September 12-13.

Attendees participated in the North Carolina Business and Economic Development Summit hosted by Congressman Richard Hudson. During the summit congressional members shared about their policy agenda to attract and retain businesses in North Carolina. Governor Pat McCrory, Senator Thom Tillis and Senator Richard Burr were also among the featured summit speakers discussing a host of issues ranging from small business and transportation to economic and workforce development. The business summit agenda also included a number of other ranking officials on the hill. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer spoke with attendees about job creation, supporting business growth, and bipartisan legislation in congress.

Participants also met with Congresswoman Alma Adams, Congressman Robert Pittenger, Congressman Hudson and Trans Atlantic Business Council CEO, Tim Bennet during events hosted by our trip sponsors Google, K&L Gates and Pillsbury. During his comments, Bennet made the case for trade agreements between the United States and other countries and updated the group on the status of pending agreements.

United States Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx held a roundtable discussion with attendees in his office. Secretary Foxx discussed transportation planning as strategic development that supports economic opportunity, connectivity and jobs. He encouraged the Ccharlotte region leaders to continue advancing a bold transportation plan for the region.

Trip Chair Carlos Sanchez, AT&T said this was a phenomenal experience for business leaders to connect with elected and appointed leaders on the hill.
